4 August 2023: Contract amendments, hiring flow and time off updates, new misclassification tool, and more

We made several improvements and updates in July to enable you to hire compliantly, fast, and competitively, and offer your team seamless experiences during and after onboarding.

Amend your team member’s contract end-to-end from the platform in a few minutes 📃

Need to make changes to your team’s employment agreement to reflect updated compensation, bonus, allowance, or job related details? We got your back.

With this new self-serve contract amendment feature, you can make changes to the contract, preview the changes, send it to the team member for their signature, know when the team member has signed, and finally sign the amendment yourself. The amended contract will be applied on the effective date and will appear as “Scheduled” until then. This feature is only available in countries where the team member is hired through Oyster’s own entity and not an Oyster partner and only for full-time employees. 

You can also see changes to the service agreement on the same page. Service agreements will be automatically updated and you can acknowledge the changes from the Service agreements page.

Updates to the hiring flow: Equity and Salary insights, hiring templates, and more ⭐️

  • Find salary and equity insights as you go through the hiring process: No need to have multiple tabs open to get salary and equity insights while making a new hire on the app. These insights are now embedded in the hiring flow, and Pearl will show you the salary ranges, equity requirements, and any risks based on the role, seniority, and/or location of the new hire.

  • Save time with Hiring templates: You can now set up your Remote work expense policy in addition to equipment policy, vacation policy, probation period, and more in your Hiring template. Create globally applicable and/or country-specific templates once and use it every time you start the hiring process

  • Generate compliant agreements, automatically--Now available while hiring in the United States: Generate compliant employment agreements automatically, as soon as you fill out a new hiring form, and fast track the hiring process. Learn more about automated agreements and country availability here.

  • Enroll contractors for allowances and bonuses while onboarding them: This will then get added to the contract, payroll and invoices, the contractor’s profile that admins will see. 

Regional and state level holidays are now supported in the Time off feature ⏰

The time off feature is updated to recognize regional and state public holidays. Below are the improvements this update brings:

  • Customer admins can now see a new “State/Region/Province” field to record a new full-time employee’s/contractor’s location

  • New and existing full-time employees and contractors can see state and regional holidays in the calendar and easily apply for time off

Confidently assess your contractors for misclassification risk ⚠️

Oyster’s free employee misclassification test will help you understand the level of risk you face based on factors such as: country of employment, hours, compensation, and more. By answering a few questions, you’ll know if your contractor is at high, medium, or low risk of misclassification. Learn more about the test here


Know who is the expense approver for each Team Member ✅

We now display the names of the expense approver (if any) for each Team Member on the expenses page and in the expense detail so any customer admin can easily identify who is responsible for approving expenses to prevent delayed approvals.
