Global vs Local Benefits Packages

Allianz Global Health enables you to provide globally accessible care to your teams while local healthcare benefits you will provide locally tailored plans.

When local healthcare plans are available

We recommend you offer local benefits that comply with and supplement the local laws and will assist you in remaining competitive against what local employers offer. In those locations, you can also offer Allianz Global Health as an add-on, especially if:

  • Your Team Member frequently travels and works outside of their country.
  • Your Team Member does not have access to a network hospital or clinic that the local benefits packages cover in their location.
  • Your Team Member is already covered by a local insurance provider through their partner or family insurance. Allianz Global Health would be more valuable in this case.

When local healthcare plans are not available

We recommend Allianz Global Health to be offered to your team as they will have access to globally accessible health benefits and coverage for pre-existing conditions, dental, vision, maternity care, mental health support, and more.

When local benefits become available in your team member’s country, we recommend migrating to those plans to offer a market-aligned solution. You can also maintain Allianz as an ad add-on on top of those plans.

How to enroll your Team Members in Allianz Global Health

You can enroll your team into Allianz Global Health from the hiring flow or from the in-app benefits flow.

From the hiring flow:

  1. After you fill out the compensation details, you will be taken to the Benefits section of the hiring form.
  2. Select a benefits package based on your company’s benefits strategy. Here's some recommendations on which to choose:
    • Competitive - if you want to offer benefits that most local employers in that specific country offer and want to remain competitive.
    • Best-in-class - if you want to offer premium benefits that set you apart.

To remain non-discriminatory, it is important to enroll all of your Team Members into the same benefits package.

  1. Make a selection to see the total estimated monthly costs.

From the benefits flow:

  1. Click People > Benefits from the left menu in your Oysteraccount.
  2. On the Benefits page, review the list of engaged Team Members and their benefits enrollment status. Click Enroll benefits to enroll a Team Member into benefits
  3. The Request Benefits Enrollment page opens. Select a plan.

Local benefits plan options are listed for IndiaPolandUnited StatesCanadaNetherlands, and Spain,

Click Send request. Wait for the success message to appear.

  1. The Oyster support team will begin the enrollment process along with the benefits vendors.

Coverage

How does the claim process work in Allianz Global Health?

Outpatient expenses

  • Any outpatient expenses incurred must be claimed by the beneficiary through the Allianz platforms (website and mobile apps)

Inpatient expenses

  • All eligible inpatient expenses are paid directly by the insurance company to the hospital. The beneficiary must notify Allianz in advance, as per the process described in the policy.
  • In case of emergencies, the beneficiary or any third party must reach out to Allianz up to three days after admission to the facility.

Does Allianz have a provider network like local plans?

Allianz has agreements in place with around 1 million facilities (hospitals, clinics, and laboratories) providers around the globe, this means that if the beneficiary chooses to pursue care through such providers he will have, just like with local providers, a smoother experience as they will already be familiar with Allianz procedures.

But since Allianz Global Health is a free-choice service, he will have the same coverage conditions in providers without such relationships. Beneficiaries can find details on such providers through the Allianz platforms.

Where will my team be covered by Allianz Global Health Insurance?

They will have full coverage, both for outpatient and inpatient care, in more than 165 countries, except for OFAC-sanctioned countries such as, but not limited to Cuba, Iran, North Korea, and Russia.

For the US, UAE, Switzerland, and Ireland, the coverage will be limited to emergency care for up to 42 days per trip.

Do they have to notify Allianz in case they wish to use their insurance outside their country of residency?

Only if they stay in such a country for more than 90 days. In such cases, the premium might change depending on the country of stay (check the pricing section for more information.

For the US, UAE, Switzerland, and Ireland, the coverage will be limited to emergency care for up to 42 days per trip.

Is there a benefits card?

No. However, your team member will receive an e-mail (from Allianz) with their policy number. With that information in hand, you will have access to all the coverage applicable to your plan.
